Day 5: Surround yourself with the right people

The Greatest Year Challenge | Exclusively for members of Club 12 with Dean Bokhari

Welcome to Day 5 of The Greatest Year Challenge.

Here’s what we’ve covered so far:

Here’s what we’re looking at today…

Surround yourself with the right people

There’s a personal development concept called the Law of Averages, which tells us that we become the average of the five people we spend the most time with. (It’s not a real “law,” but it’s a useful concept that I’ve found to be true.)

So, if you want to change your life, you need to change your circle.

To do that, you need to identify two types of people:

Negators and Activators.

  1. Negators (energy vampires). These are the people who lower the vibe the moment they walk into a room. They criticize your ambitions. They tell you why your goals are “impossible” or “too risky”. They suck the positive energy out of you.

  2. Activators. These are the people you want to be around; the kinds of people who light you up. They share in your joy and want you to succeed. They naturally say, “Hey, you can do it,” instead of telling you why you can’t. You’ll also notice that, in most cases, Activators are the folks who’ve accomplished what you want to accomplish, making them potential mentors or role models.

Actionable insights

Your challenge today is to take an honest inventory of who’s influencing you.

Here’s how:

  • Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle.
